English colonists
New World arrivals
English colonists are people who settled territories claimed by England, establishing communities under English rule in lands far from the mother country.
The term most often refers to settlers in North America during the 17th and 18th centuries: The English colonists at Jamestown struggled through their first winter.
It may also describe settlers in other English colonial territories across the Caribbean, Africa, and Asia.
