founding fathers
Movement's original architects
The founding fathers of something are the people who established it—the originators who created an institution, movement, or tradition: the founding fathers of jazz, the founding fathers of the internet.
The phrase emphasizes their role in laying foundations that others built upon. (Capitalized Founding Fathers refers specifically to the American revolutionaries.)
