Ile-de-France
Parisian metropolitan area
Ile-de-France is the region surrounding Paris, the historic heart of France.
The name means "Island of France," referring to the territory bounded by rivers—the Seine, Marne, and Oise.
Today it designates the administrative region containing Paris and its suburbs, home to about a fifth of France's population: Property prices in Ile-de-France have soared.
