Greater London
Thames-spanning urban area
Greater London is the administrative region comprising the City of London and 32 surrounding boroughs, governed as a unified metropolitan area.
It covers about 600 square miles and contains roughly nine million people—England's largest city by far.
The designation distinguishes the formal governmental unit from the historic city center or the even larger metropolitan sprawl beyond its boundaries.
