Saint-Denis

French monarchs' rest

Saint-Denis is a commune in the northern suburbs of Paris, historically significant as the burial site of French monarchs.

The Basilica of Saint-Denis, a masterpiece of Gothic architecture, contains the tombs of nearly every French king from the 10th century onward.

The city is named for Saint Denis, the patron saint of France, said to have been martyred there in the 3rd century.
