Schleswig-Holstein
Northernmost German state
Schleswig-Holstein is the northernmost state of Germany, bordering Denmark.
The region's complex history—disputed between Denmark, Prussia, and Austria in the 19th century—made "the Schleswig-Holstein question" a byword for intractable political problems.
Only three people ever understood the Schleswig-Holstein question, and one is dead, one went mad, and the third forgot.
