Cinerama

Widescreen film format

Cinerama was a widescreen film process that used three synchronized projectors and a deeply curved screen to create an immersive panoramic image.

Popular in the 1950s and 1960s, it was designed to fill peripheral vision and overwhelm viewers with spectacle: The travelogue was shot in Cinerama.

The process required specially equipped theaters, which limited its reach.

The term sometimes appears generically for any epic widescreen presentation.
