8mm film
Small-gauge home movies
8mm film is a motion picture format using film stock 8 millimeters wide, introduced for amateur home movies in the 1930s.
The original format was later joined by Super 8, which offered a larger image area.
Before video cameras, 8mm was how families recorded birthdays, vacations, and holidays: We found old 8mm film of my parents' wedding.
The format has nostalgic associations with grainy, silent footage and the clatter of projectors.
