aspect ratio
Image shape measurement
Aspect ratio is the proportional relationship between width and height.
In screens and images, it's expressed as two numbers separated by a colon: a 16:9 aspect ratio means the width is 16 units for every 9 units of height.
The old TV aspect ratio was 4:3; modern screens are wider.
The term applies to any rectangle—tires, aircraft wings, pixel dimensions.
