Cape Verde

African island nation

Cape Verde is an island nation in the Atlantic Ocean off the west coast of Africa.

The archipelago of ten volcanic islands gained independence from Portugal in 1975.

The country officially changed its name to Cabo Verde in 2013, though Cape Verde remains common in English: We island-hopped through Cape Verde.
