Burkina Faso

Ouagadougou's landlocked nation

Burkina Faso is a landlocked country in West Africa, bordered by Mali, Niger, Benin, Togo, Ghana, and Ivory Coast.

The name, adopted in 1984 when the country changed from Upper Volta, combines words from two local languages meaning "land of upright people." The capital is Ouagadougou.

A citizen is a Burkinabè.
