COX-2

Prostaglandin-producing protein

COX-2 is an enzyme (cyclooxygenase-2) that the body produces in response to inflammation, injury, or pain.

Unlike its counterpart COX-1, which maintains normal bodily functions like protecting the stomach lining, COX-2 is primarily associated with inflammatory responses.

Drugs that selectively inhibit COX-2, such as celecoxib, are designed to reduce pain and inflammation while minimizing gastrointestinal side effects common with traditional anti-inflammatory medications.
