catalase

Breaks down peroxide

Catalase is an enzyme that breaks down hydrogen peroxide into water and oxygen.

Found in nearly all living organisms, it protects cells from oxidative damage.

The fizzing when hydrogen peroxide contacts a wound is catalase in blood and tissue rapidly decomposing the peroxide.
