bioavailability
Usable drug percentage
Bioavailability is the proportion of a substance that enters the bloodstream and becomes available for use in the body.
The term appears most often in pharmacology: a drug injected intravenously has 100% bioavailability, while the same drug taken orally may have much less because some is lost to digestion.
Bioavailability also matters in nutrition—iron from meat has higher bioavailability than iron from spinach.
