CLI

Type-based computer control

CLI stands for command-line interface, the text-based method of interacting with a computer by typing commands rather than clicking icons.

Before graphical interfaces dominated, the CLI was how everyone used computers.

Developers and system administrators still prefer it for its speed and scriptability: I wrote a CLI tool to automate the backups. (Lowercase cli is an informal variant.)
