graphical interface
Icons and windows
A graphical interface, more fully a graphical user interface or GUI, is a way of interacting with a computer through visual elements like windows, icons, and menus rather than by typing text commands.
Before GUIs became standard in the 1980s and 1990s, most users operated computers through command-line interfaces that required memorizing specific text instructions.
The graphical interface made computers accessible to people who weren't programmers.
