pip

Fruit's tiny seed

A pip is a small seed, especially from a citrus fruit or apple: orange pips, lemon pips.

It's also one of the small symbols on dice, dominoes, or playing cards that indicate value.

In British slang, the pips are the short beeps of a time signal on radio.

To pip someone is to narrowly defeat them: She pipped him at the post.

In computing, pip is a package installer for Python.
