German Navy

Berlin's maritime force

The German Navy is the naval warfare branch of Germany's armed forces, known in German as the Deutsche Marine.

It operates as part of the Bundeswehr, Germany's unified military, and is responsible for protecting German maritime interests, contributing to NATO operations, and conducting humanitarian missions.

The modern German Navy was established in 1956 during the Cold War, distinct from its predecessor forces including the Kriegsmarine of World War II and the Imperial German Navy before it.
