Bundeswehr
Germany's armed forces
The Bundeswehr is the unified armed forces of Germany, established in 1955.
The name translates roughly as "federal defense" and encompasses the army, navy, air force, and support services.
After World War II, West Germany created the Bundeswehr as a conscript military under civilian control and NATO command—a deliberate break from the Wehrmacht's legacy.
