brigadier

One-star officer

A brigadier is a military officer ranking above a colonel and below a major general.

In the British army and many Commonwealth forces, brigadier is a one-star rank; the American equivalent is brigadier general.

The rank typically commands a brigade—a unit of several thousand soldiers: The brigadier inspected the troops before deployment.
