factions
Parties within parties
Factions are groups within a larger organization that hold distinct positions or pursue separate interests, often in opposition to other groups or the whole: Warring factions within the party threatened to derail the nomination.
The word implies internal division—a country doesn't have factions, but its government might.
In gaming, factions are competing teams or allegiances players can join.
