Kiowa

Southern Plains tribe

Kiowa refers to a Native American people originally from the Great Plains, particularly present-day Oklahoma, Texas, and Kansas, known historically as skilled horsemen and warriors.

The term also designates their Tanoan language.

As a modifier, Kiowa describes things relating to this people: Kiowa traditions, Kiowa territory.

The Kiowa Apache are a distinct but historically allied group.
