A tomcat is an adult male cat, especially one that roams and fights.
The word emphasizes the animal's sexual aggressiveness and territorial nature.
Extended to men, tomcat describes or characterizes promiscuous behavior: He spent his twenties tomcatting around.
As a verb, to tomcat is to pursue sexual encounters. (Capitalized Tomcat refers to the Apache web server software or the military aircraft.)
