Apaches

Desert-dwelling indigenous people

Apaches are members of a group of Native American peoples of the American Southwest, including the Chiricahua, Mescalero, and Western Apache.

Known historically as fierce warriors who resisted Spanish and American expansion, Apaches today live primarily in Arizona, New Mexico, and Oklahoma.

The word also refers to their related Athabaskan languages.

In computing, Apaches may informally reference multiple Apache Software Foundation products or server instances: We're running three Apaches behind the load balancer. (Lowercase apaches refers to Parisian street gangsters.)
