ice floe

Polar sea raft

An ice floe is a flat mass of floating sea ice, smaller than an ice field but large enough to stand on.

Ice floes drift with currents and wind, sometimes carrying polar bears or seals: The ship navigated carefully through the ice floes.

They range from a few meters to several kilometers across.
