Algonquins
Great Lakes indigenous people
The Algonquins are an Indigenous people of northeastern North America, primarily inhabiting regions of Quebec and Ontario along the Ottawa River.
The term also refers to their language, part of the broader Algonquian language family.
Algonquin is often confused with Algonquian—the former names a specific nation, while the latter describes the larger linguistic and cultural group spanning from the Atlantic coast to the Rocky Mountains.
