New England tribe

The Pequot are a Native American people indigenous to what is now Connecticut.

The Pequot War of 1636–1638 nearly annihilated the tribe, with survivors sold into slavery or absorbed by other groups.

The Mashantucket Pequot, reconstituted in the 20th century, operate Foxwoods Resort Casino.

Pequot also names the tribe's Algonquian language, now extinct.
