16mm film
Amateur movie gauge
16mm film is a motion picture format using film stock 16 millimeters wide, smaller than standard 35mm theatrical film.
Introduced in the 1920s as an affordable alternative for amateurs and educators, it became the standard for documentary filmmaking, television news, and independent cinema through most of the 20th century.
The documentary was shot on 16mm film.
Digital video has largely replaced it, though some filmmakers still choose 16mm for its distinctive grain and texture.
