wakesurfing

Surfing boat wakes

Wakesurfing is a water sport where a rider surfs the wave created by a boat's wake, typically without being directly towed.

After being pulled up by a rope, the surfer releases it and rides freely on the boat's trailing wave: She spent the afternoon wakesurfing behind the ski boat.

Unlike waterskiing or wakeboarding, no continuous tow is needed once the rider catches the wave.
