To stoke is to tend a fire by adding fuel or stirring it up: He stoked the wood stove through the night.
By extension, to stoke something is to encourage or intensify it: The rumors stoked public outrage.
In slang, stoked means excited or thrilled: I'm so stoked for the concert.
The adjective use originated in surfer culture and spread into general youth slang. (Capitalized Stoke is a place name.)
