vertebras

Bones forming spine

Vertebras is a nonstandard plural of vertebra, the small bones that form the spinal column.

The traditional plural is vertebrae, following Latin convention, though vertebras appears in informal usage.

Each vertebra interlocks with its neighbors to protect the spinal cord while allowing the back to bend and twist.

The doctor examined the vertebras in her lower back.
