vertebral body
Spine's bony drum
The vertebral body is the thick, cylindrical front portion of a vertebra that bears most of the spine's weight.
Stacked one atop another with cushioning discs between them, the vertebral bodies form the spine's main column: The MRI showed a compression fracture of the L4 vertebral body.
The bony arch behind each body creates the canal protecting the spinal cord.
