wood veneer
Thin decorative facing
Wood veneer is a thin slice of wood, typically less than 3mm thick, glued onto a base material to create the appearance of solid wood at lower cost.
Fine furniture often uses veneer to display attractive grain patterns that would be prohibitively expensive in solid form: The cabinet was walnut veneer over particleboard.
Veneer allows decorative woods to cover larger surfaces than solid pieces would permit.
