disguise

Concealment through costume

A disguise is an altered appearance meant to conceal identity—a costume, wig, or false beard that makes someone unrecognizable.

To disguise yourself is to put on such a covering.

The word extends to anything that masks true nature: a blessing in disguise, thinly disguised contempt.

To disguise a voice is to alter it so the speaker can't be identified.
