oak veneer
Thin wood layer
Oak veneer is a thin slice of oak wood applied to the surface of less expensive material—typically plywood or particleboard—to give the appearance of solid oak at lower cost.
Veneer allows the distinctive grain pattern of oak to cover furniture, cabinetry, and paneling without using solid wood throughout: The desk looked expensive but was just oak veneer over particleboard.
