vagabonds

Rootless traveling people

Vagabonds are people who wander from place to place without a fixed home or regular work.

The word carries romantic connotations of freedom and adventure, but historically it described those on society's margins—drifters, tramps, or itinerants viewed with suspicion: Medieval laws punished vagabonds as potential criminals.

As a verb, to vagabond is to live or travel as one: He vagabonded across Europe for a year.
