Sami

Arctic Scandinavian people

The Sami are the indigenous people of northern Scandinavia and the Kola Peninsula, traditionally known for reindeer herding and distinctive handicrafts.

The term also refers to their group of related languages.

Sami has largely replaced the older term Lapp, which many consider outdated or offensive: Sami reindeer herders have grazed these lands for thousands of years. (Lowercase sami is informal slang for sandwich.)
