displaced persons
People without homes
Displaced persons are people forced to leave their homes, typically due to war, persecution, natural disaster, or political upheaval.
The term gained prominence during and after World War II to describe the millions of refugees and survivors who could not return to their countries of origin.
Unlike refugees, who cross international borders, displaced persons may remain within their own country—these are often called internally displaced persons or IDPs.
The camp housed thousands of displaced persons awaiting resettlement.
