careerists
Ambitious professional types
Careerists are people who prioritize professional advancement above other considerations—sometimes implying they sacrifice principles, relationships, or broader purpose for career gain.
The term often carries a negative connotation, suggesting excessive ambition or opportunism: The department was full of careerists who wouldn't risk disagreeing with leadership.
In military contexts, a careerist is someone who makes the service a lifelong profession rather than serving a single term.
