granulation

Forming small particles

Granulation is the process of forming small grains or granules, or the grainy texture that results.

In medicine, granulation tissue is the new connective tissue and blood vessels that form on healing wounds—pink, bumpy, and slightly moist.

In manufacturing, granulation converts powders into uniform granules for easier handling: sugar granulation, pharmaceutical granulation.

The term also describes the mottled, grain-like appearance of the sun's surface.
