decubitus
Bedridden body posture
Decubitus is a medical term for the position of a patient lying down.
Physicians specify lateral decubitus (on the side), dorsal decubitus (on the back), or ventral decubitus (face down).
The term appears most often in decubitus ulcer—a bedsore caused by prolonged pressure on the skin: The nursing staff checked for decubitus ulcers every shift.
