photochromic

Darkens in sunlight

Photochromic describes materials that change color in response to light, particularly ultraviolet radiation.

The most familiar application is photochromic lenses in eyeglasses, which darken in sunlight and clear indoors: My photochromic glasses take a few minutes to adjust when I go inside.

The effect is reversible and repeatable.
