tapper

Maple syrup harvester

A tapper is someone or something that taps.

The word most often appears in compound forms: a wiretapper intercepts communications, a safecracker might be called a safe tapper, and in manufacturing, a tapper is a tool or machine that cuts screw threads.

In traditional industries, a tapper extracts sap from trees, particularly for rubber or maple syrup production.

The term also applies to dancers who perform tap dance.
