sugarhouse

Sap boiling building

A sugarhouse is a building where maple sap is boiled down to make maple syrup and sugar.

Found throughout New England and other maple-producing regions, these structures contain the evaporators and equipment needed to reduce large quantities of sap into concentrated syrup.

During sugaring season in late winter and early spring, steam billows from sugarhouse vents as producers work around the clock.

We visited a local sugarhouse during the maple festival.
