snorkelling

Shallow underwater viewing

Snorkelling is swimming at or near the water's surface while breathing through a snorkel, a short tube that extends above the waterline.

The activity allows swimmers to observe underwater life—fish, coral, sea creatures—without the training or equipment required for scuba diving.

It's a popular recreational activity in tropical waters and beach resorts.

We went snorkelling off the coast and saw dozens of colourful fish.

This is the British spelling; Americans write snorkeling.
