cave diving

Underwater cavern exploration

Cave diving is underwater diving in flooded caves and caverns, distinguished from open-water diving by confined spaces, absence of natural light, and no direct access to the surface.

The activity requires specialized training and equipment because standard diving skills are insufficient for the unique hazards: silt that obscures visibility, disorientation, and equipment failure with no quick exit.

Cave diving claims more lives per participant than almost any other recreational activity.
