paddling
Propelling a canoe
Paddling is the act of propelling a boat with a paddle, or the recreational activity itself: We went paddling on the lake.
It also means wading or splashing in shallow water: children paddling at the beach.
As discipline, paddling is striking someone with a paddle or flat object, typically on the buttocks: The school banned paddling in 1985.
