snorkels

Shallow diver's gear

Snorkels is the plural of snorkel, a breathing tube that allows a swimmer to breathe while floating face-down at the water's surface.

The tube curves up and back, keeping its opening above water: We grabbed our snorkels and masks and headed to the reef.

To snorkel is to swim this way, and snorkels is also the verb form: She snorkels every morning before breakfast.
