shochu

Asian distilled liquor

Shochu is a Japanese distilled spirit, typically made from barley, sweet potato, rice, or buckwheat.

Stronger than sake but usually lighter than whiskey, it ranges from 25 to 45 percent alcohol.

Shochu can be drunk straight, on the rocks, or mixed with water or tea: We ordered a bottle of sweet potato shochu.
