rice wine
Fermented grain beverage
Rice wine is an alcoholic beverage made from fermented rice, common across East and Southeast Asia.
Japanese sake and Chinese mijiu are the best-known varieties.
Despite the name, rice wine is technically brewed like beer rather than fermented like grape wine.
It appears in both drinking and cooking: Add a splash of rice wine to the stir-fry.
